Rose is feeling quite inspired! She and Claire just walked home from school and all they talked about was amazing out and proud women. They spoke of Kathleen Wynne (Ontario’s first female premier), Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir the prime minister of Iceland, and Julie d’Aubigny – a 17th-century swordswoman, actor, singer and out bisexual.
It’s super cute how Rose is engaged, but she is still trying to find her bravery. “The bravery will come”, said David at Rose’s first PFLAG meeting. His words still stand out to her. Watch that episode by clicking here.
This minisode was first available to our supporters who are members of our VIP Out With Dad private Facebook group. It went live to the public on February 28th, 2013. To find out how you can watch episodes three weeks early, visit outwithdad.com/contribute for details.
Who inspires you? Tell us in the comments below.
I think who inspiring me is the cast of glee they are all courageous and strong people. I really love that show too.
Who inspires me:
Nolwenn Leroy
Emmanuel Moire
Nelson Mandela “Madiba”
Dalaï Lama
Rosa Park
…
and of course Out With Dad :-}
Who inspires me? Actually, nobody. I don’t have LGB role models. And I don’t care whether there are openly LGB politicians or not. What matters to me is that more and more straight people accept homosexuality and bisexuality as equal. According to a recent survey, 87% of Germans say that society should accept homosexuality.
https://www.pewglobal.org/2013/06/04/the-global-divide-on-homosexuality/
74% of Germans support marriage equality.
I’d also like to point out that being proud to be gay doesn’t make any sense. One’s sexual orientation is neither a choice nor an achievement.
Awwww! Clare is being such a good influence on Rose! I love it!
My students were recently studying Martin Luther King Jr. and watched a movie about Ruby Bridges. I can’t help but relate the civil right struggles of the past to the current struggles of the LGBT community to gain equal treatment, particularly in marriage, in the modern-day United States. When I learned in school about the civil rights struggles of the past, I figured such struggles were over, having been won in the past by such brave crusaders a Dr. King. I see a very real parallel between what went on back then and what occurs today, and though it makes me sad to realize there are people that are discriminated against still today in such a way, I also see a lot of victories, such as those Rose mentions in her video diary that give me hope that the fight for equality is attainable.
oops! sent me to the US. I grew up in the Philippines. I was born in the Philippines but I am of Chinese descent.
By the way, Rose reminds me of myself. Years ago, I had already accepted that I was gay, but saying it out loud, even to myself, was a really hard thing to do. Then one day I was talking to a friend who already knew that I am gay, and I said something along the lines “just because I’m a lesbian doesn’t mean…”. Then I realised that was the first time I was saying it out loud. 🙂
I have this thing in my room, I like to call it my inspirationational wall, where I have pictures of people that inspire me. Some of them:
Ellen Degeneres
The people from the Stonewall Riots
Dianna Agron
Jane Lynch
Melissa Etheridge
Anne Hathaway
Daniel Radcliffe
Megan Rapinoe
Katherine Switzer
Who inspired me? For a decade, it was the band t.A.T.u. They were more than a publicity stunt! Never heard anyone sing about and for the LGBT community as their career focus. LOVE THEM BEST FAKE-LESBIAN group but really real and nice singers to their fans!
Oh i’ve loved t.A.T.u 😀
But i just found them after their career 🙁
ha ha replied my oops to the wrong post. oh well, you gdt what I mean.
Hi! I think you’re not alone. I knew about them in 2002. My parents sent me to the Philippines when I came out of the closet. I lived in Florida back then. After six months of constant arguments with my relatives in Florida, they wanted to send me back home since they could not convince me to embrace the straight woman in me. I did not want to go home knowing my fate, probably locked in my room or forced to marry some rich Chinese guy. So, I went online and found a group called Freedom At Last, in Wichita, KS. I knew this would mean room and board and I would not have to go home. I just had to convince them I wanted to go through this ex-gay program; or homo-nomo as my wife calls it. I used to go to the public library to get my t.A.T.u. fix, lol! Got away with it for two months until I got caught and was banned from going to the library at all until I finish the one year program. I later re-discovered t.A.T.u. like three-four months ago. So, I know it blows they disbanded but I guess there’s always youtube! lol! 🙂
Who inspires me:
Helen Keller
Ellen Degeneres
Janeane Garofalo
Marlee Matlin
Evan Rachel Wood
Barbara Streisand
Marlene Dietrich was the first openly bi sexual woman on the big screen and in TV interviews. Back in the 1930’s this was unheard of, now that took courage. So many other stars came out because of her.
Um.. I had to post here cause Kate is so amazing. This was so amazing.
