Vanessa runs for her life. With no place to go and no one to turn to, she spends her first night on the street. This might be the longest night of her life. Will she ever find a little light in her darkness?
This is the forth episode of Vanessa’s Story, the spin-off of Out With Dad shot in secret while filming the rest of season three. Vanessa’s Story episodes run in parallel to Out With Dad‘s episodes.

I complete (for now) my reviews: https://fedscomic.blogspot.com/2014/06/reviews-vanessas-pain-and-vanessa-runs.html
As painful as it was to watch Kyle’s attempted rape in the previous episode, it almost preordained. Vanessa knows now that the mean streets are not safe for her. After a whole bunch of soul searching on the park bench overnight (she can’t go home, she can’t go back to the flop house, she can’t remain unsheltered), there is only one option. Run to Matthew and Fatima, where she will probably be accepted and safe. How profound…
It was a short scene, however Lindsey managed to make me cry. I’m so happy to finally have found an alternative Vanessa, at least stand beside his brother. I’m loving it! You are doing a great job, I get emotional every episode. Sorry for my English. I would love the subtitle in Portuguese, please. Thank you for this beautiful project 😉
Portuguese legend please <3
I take back my past comment about her not knowing where her brother was lol
So relieved she had somewhere to go that kept her away from the streets. The drama OWD has been creating this season has been incredible great job all.
I did know that she had a brother. ‘Dumb’
I’m glad that Vanessa went to her brother’s place. Matthew and Fatima seems like really sweet people. It’s also great that Vanessa has finally been able to admit to herself that she’s bisexual. I hope she’ll be alright soon!
Just wanted to pay a quick compliment to Jason, the director. Some brilliant, challenging shots in this episode. Well done!
And Lindsey Middleton as Vanessa — some of her finest work yet!
Relieved that my question on why not go to her brother for help was answered in this episode, even more relieved Vanessa managed to escape not one but two creepy guys in one night. She’s been fairly lucky to be able to avoid the really violent people while wandering the streets of Toronto. Hope that her luck holds out. Great episode.
Im glad she went to her bothers also. Knowing shes safe and is getting food into her system makes me not so worried. 🙂
I was glad to hear Vanessa say that she is bisexual because it reminds me of when I first came out to myself. I do know now that my sexuality is part of who I am. I was relieved when she finally made it to Matthew because now we know that she is safe and no longer on the streets.
wow. you are great.. like vanessa (:
im glad that she want to her bother home and not living on the street!!!! i hope she talk to her brother about her problems!!!!
Yes finally something good!! Towards Vanessa, and I’m glad she’s finally not afraid to say she’s bisexual.:D
This webserie is getting better! Thanks!
Fantastic! I have always wondered about her brother. I knew she had an older brother that the family had broken contact with. I never really got why the contact had been broken, tough. Doesn’t seem like he was thrown out because he was gay at least… since he was living with a woman who also knew who Vanessa was. Are Vanessa’s family homophobes and racists?
Her family is Catholic and very devout. They didn’t like that Matthew married a Muslim so they (the mom) sort of disowned him.
So the main deal is that they disown their children because of who they fall in love with? Or the fact that they embrace love?
I don’t get why religious people are so against love… Don’t they know that love can’t be controlled. It can be denied, but what god wants his creations to reject love? What god thinks love is wrong? I read from my bracelet: “Love is a human right”
Thank God she’s safe!
It’s a credit to you, Mr Leaver, that I am so caught up in the anguish, and worried for the safety, of a fictional 15 y.o. girl on the other side of the Atlantic!
My teen years are long behind me, in fact I’m now a grandfather, but I can still remember feeling totally alone back then, not knowing where to turn or who to trust – or even to talk to.
Vanessa’s Story isn’t an easy thing to watch even now and my heart goes out to everyone who’s going through any similar turmoil.
This brought back some old, painful memories….through no fault of anyone but myself I found myself homeless for several weeks in my mid 20s. Slept on the ground, a bunch of different park benches and in shelters….but never felt really rested. I can feel Vanessa’s pain here….in fact I could feel my heart beat a little faster and sweating under my arms….good job with this Jason.
I want to say how I relieved I am that Vanessa has come to her senses and decided to seek refuge with her brother. I love the added tension of his wife being pregnant, this ought to cause some drama within the extended family! Do we know how her family feels about this? You’re doing great work Jason!
Is that a wild Jason Leaver trying to get cosy with Vanessa on the bench? I wouldn’t blame her for inching away, directors are pretty crazy people 😀 great episode, awesome that we got to meet the brother!
I’m feeling alot better now that she’s safe. I cant wait to watch her seeing Rose again.
Thanks a lot!! I love it!! Keep up! 😀
I LOVED this episode!
Is that you at the beginning, Jason?
Such a great moment of release when she says “I’m bisexual.” Also, I’m glad we finally get to see the brother.
Towards the end it got more happy and finally got to meet Matthew. I’m completely fine with her being bisexual I’ve just never seen her interested in any guy only girls like Rose and Kayla. Anyway can’t wait for the finale but I swear the episodes are getting shorter every one:( can’t wait for 3.3 and hopefully a happy ending!!!
Yea… and the fact that she even talked to a REAL bisexual earlier. Well, maybe she does know that she do feel some guys attractive… even tough she has not shown any interest in them in this show. Still… may just be because this show is about coming out, and if Vanessa had shown interest in guys, this may not have been such a big problem either. When bisexuals are in relationship with opposite gender… parents that are little supportive of the sexual orientation they have… often tend to just start to think of them as straight and forget anything else when they go into that kind of relationship… being bi and together with someone of opposite gender just doesn’t make it such a big deal for parents. They just seem to forget that you ever came out…
Yeah I do agree with that the drama and how parents react I just found it a little weird plus all the guys she’s encountered lately havent been the best lol.
Incredible, i have watched the series from episode one over a year and a half ago multiple times and i still love it. I love how you have brought Vanessa’s story into it. I love rose though (thank you Kate!) and Claire (big thankyou to Caitlynne too) . For a young girl like me finding herself, this series helps me, and many others, look forward to a bright, clear accepting future. You probably wont ever read this but i would still love to say a MASSIVE thankyou to everyone involved with out with dad, you have changed my life forever. Thank you Jason too. You guys are my idols! I know that this is just one of thousands of thankyous and you will probably never even read this but i just want to say a big big thank you from England, and infact every young person who has been influenced the way i have by this show. You brighten up my week, and for somebody who’s often down and who is being drowned by exams you really make a big difference. Thank you x and i mean it from the heart! X
I’m so glad we got to meet Vanessa’s brother! AND TO HEAR HER SAY SHE’S BISEXUAL!! Finally! I hope everything goes well for her.
Can’t wait to see the next episode!
Why is there vanessa’s pain again!?
Ooops! Technical error! Fixed now!
Was the correct video posted? I think “Vanessa’s Pain” was reposted instead of “Vanessa Runs”.
