When we last saw Rose, she was practising coming out to dad – but will she? Does she have the courage? Inside she knows it’s time. But how will dad react if she does? Coming out can be the scariest thing a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning teen will ever go through.

Hey there.
You know how difficult it is not sitting in front of my laptop and just outright laugh? Because Nathan was awesome. In this episode he is just way too hilarious. The thing with the whiteboard? Haha, I’m sure he scared Rose.
And I actually feel kinda sorry for Rose. At first there was this tiny little person inside her head going on her nerve all the time and then Nathan. So funny..^^
And then of course there is Vanessa. It’s just cruel. She just came out of the closet to her best friend and her Dad and then the maybe-love-of-her-life bullies her.
This episode also made me think a lot about my relationship towards my own dad, because I never actually asked him if he suspected anything. Well, maybe there’s time sometime soon.
As always: Awesome episode and even more awesome starting off for the new season. I heard something about summer coming the new episodes?
Love,
Theda
Hi! Just wanted to say that this web series is awesome.
I constantly hear grown-ups saying they wished they had something like this when they grew up, and i feel really happy for having what they didn’t have, a web series that shows that it actually IS ok to be gay .
So i wanted to thank the entire cast and crew, because i’ve seen this episode many many times, since it was aired… all the way until now, and thanks to this episode i could finally come out of the closet to my mom, she took it fairly well despite being such a close-minded christian.
Thanks again.
I really like have the inner monologue of Rose and her dad, it’s really relatable and makes the scene so much more than just a simple coming out moment. Now I just want to see a conversation like that between rose and Vanessa!!
Hi there,
you don’t have French subtitles, do you?
Is this your choice or you haven’t found a translator yet?
I’d love to help if there’s a need.
Blessings,
Erika
Merci Erika!
We do have French subtitles. But I want to thank you for offering! That is so kind of you.
Most welcome! 😉
Having it out was the best episode yet. Looking forward to watching the rest of this 3rd season.
I just want to inform you that it’s impossible to watch this particular episode on YouTube in Germany.
Here, you get the following message:
“Leider ist dieses Video in Deutschland nicht verfügbar, da es Musik enthalten könnte, für die die GEMA die erforderlichen Musikrechte nicht eingeräumt hat.”
Translation:
“Unfortunately, this video is not available in Germany, because it could contain music for which the GEMA (Society for musical performing and mechanical reproduction rights) hasn’t granted the necessary music rights.”
You could try to delete the video and upload it again.
That’s very disappointing. I’ll look into this. Unfortunately we can’t delete/re-upload because all the embed codes and links shared here and there would be invalid.
I’ll have to contact YouTube. Thanks for telling us. Are you able to watch here with our blip player?
Danke
Yes, I can and already did watch this episode here. No problem.
I LOVE THIS SHOW its one of my absolute favorite shows ever. there arnt alot of gay shows on actual television where im from and to be able to just click on your website and not feel alone it really means alot to me. thanks. ill be starting school soon and wish me luck cause im the only out lesbian at my school now. bye guys.
Hi, I love “Out With Dad” it’s an awesome show! I just now noticed this and thought it was kinda funny but also kinda weird. August 4. The day the new episode comes out? Yeah, that’s my birthday. Haha. I’m alot like Rose actually. I have an awesome mom who is alot like her dad. But I sadly havn’t “Come out” yet. I think the whole 4th thing means something. 😉 Wish me luck guys. Hopfully, i’ll come out soon. <3
excellent serie Its good!!!!!
Hi there!
I watched all your season one epis on youtube… now I am a bit sad because I can’t watch it here…. due to various reasons I can’t upgrade my flashplayer …. so no way… will you upload on youtube again? or is this no option anymore?
thanks for your work 😉
Hey – just wanted to let you know that we will/have put episodes on YouTube. They’ll show up on YouTube about three weeks after they debut on blip.tv. So at this point episodes 2×01 and 2×02 are there. And on Thursday this week we’ll push out 2×03.
I am not much of a drama fan but these shows are one of the finest i have ever seen.
I hope you will have many seasons to come.
Pure exelence 🙂
I’m guessing by your name and email address that you’re a sci fi fan like me! I never figured I’d be making a drama, let alone being a fan of it. Yet, here I am, a scifi/action/adventure junkie making a queer-positive teen/family drama.
I’m kinda glad to know that other nerds like me are enjoying Out With Dad. Thank you for watching!
I love this series, I only wish it had happened like that for me. My parents were totally supportive, but it was my assistant principal who called my mom and told her. Keep up the good work, I can’t wait for the continuation of this incredible show.
The dad’s reaction is AMAZING. I want my dad’s reaction like this D;
Im brazilian girl and i love this serie!!
Thanks for subbing in Portuguese
Always knew you’d pull this off Jason but you’ve surpassed even my (high) expectations! Glad to see this continuing 🙂
I love the way the father/daughter relationship is actually developed throughout this series and in this episode particularly, most other storylines don’t really acknowledge the relationship that the younger character has with a member of family and I personally think out of all the shows and series i have watched, this has managed to do that better than any of them. In some ways It’s quite sad because i personally don’t have that bond with any of my parents or family and so It’s something quite refreshing to see and the fact he’s genuinley accepting towards her, which in most cases is quite rare for somebody in the situation that Rose is in. This out of all episodes seems so real and is scripted really well, I also like the different angles it’s filmed in, it makes it seem more like a TV show, rather than a series created specificly for the web. Very well written, very well done. Just wanted to say thank you and that i can’t wait until the next episode, this series already seems very promising 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind words, Sophie.
Since the beginning I wanted to tell the story as balanced as possible from both Rose’s and her dad’s perspective. That’s mainly because I realized there aren’t many resources or positive role models for parents. I guess I kinda hope Nathan can be an example for parents, how we want them – no, how we need them to be.
I hope parents are watching too.
I just watched this episode and it’s perfect 🙂 but when will there be more? D: ..
You guys are the best, keep up the good work!
AMAZING!! I was in tears on the coming out scene! it was so beautifull and so realistic, and even when I am a gay men and the situation of coming out is kinda different i just felt so identify with it! besides, I loved the comedy you guys imprinted in such a serious topic, I really do.
Im considering showing this to my mom, I come out to her like about a year but i think she is still in the “denial” part. Maybe she can identify with it too and maybe it can help her to figure out a lot of things or thats what i hope xD.
Anyways, I want to tell you: I love you all, thanks for help the world everyday better.
Cant wait for the next chapter!!!!
Greetings from Venezuela!
I always hope that parents will watch this too!
(perdóname, he usado Google Translate)
Excelente capitulo (: Cuando subiran el siguienteee!!! No puedo esperar D:
Gracias!
21 de julio.
I wonder why you guys didn’t win the web drama series category. I like the music, I love Late July’s tracks. The casts are outstanding, it is so real. I’d been in phase on questioning my sexuality on 2004-2007, I dated girls and got indulged with the relationship. But, now I am married with a guy, and we have adorable son. What I am trying to say is, some people may have phase in their live, even for being gay. They have to figure out themselves, learning by the process. I was in my early twenties when questioning my sexuality, and it was not easy. So, for young Vanessa, I can understand how she was freaking out and, as under 18+, you cannot do anything but obey your parents.
Anyway, I enjoy this show very much. You guys are awesome!
We were up against some pretty amazing series! But what’s more important is that we’re getting seen by people, and that audiences can relate. I’m glad you’re one of them!

Gracias por los subtitulos!! Es una serie maravillosa!!!
I adore this show….
I am from Romania <3333
Can`t wait for next episodes..
CONGRATS!!!!!
I’m deaf. As soon as the episode got out, I had to watch immediately regardless. I tried my hardest understanding as much as I could from lipreading. Then the English is now available along with other languages (OWD looks like it’s a hit internationally), I finished watching this episode of season 2 and I’m very pleased. I’m looking forward to more episodes.
I agree with a poster, not only am I looking forward to season 2 but as well as more seasons if there’s a need for further development. So exciting.
The script is well thought out.
Thanks so much, to the director and the entire crew, for working hard to push out the series to people for making the series.
From one of your fans, Kat
Thank you Kat! I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it. I’m sure some of the driving scene must have been difficult to lip read! That was my first time filming in a car – it’s tricky!
Enjoy the rest of the season.
Great job, you are amazing. I just discovered the show tonight and I’ve seen all the chapters in a row without stopping. I feel very identified with Rose, thank you very much and excuse my English (I’m from Spain) ^ ^
I’m so glad you discovered us!
How did you find us?
I found you here: https://www.ambienteg.com/television/ha-empezado-la-segunda-temporada-de-out-with-dad
Oh cool! Thank you for telling me!
Outstanding! Just Amazing. I wish my parents were that awesome.
Just starting the subtitles in portuguese!
Congrats to all.
I’ll just say it has been so much better that I ever imagined for the first episode of the season. All the story has brought me back so many feelings and memories… Well done! Enhorabuena!! Of course I offer my services as a translator haha
Thank you! What language do you speak?
Well, I’m spanish and I try to do my best with english. Not a professional anyway.
If you need any help with German or Spanish, I would be glad to assist you…
Anamaría.
Thank you Anamaría!
We’ve got someone working on German right now, and our Spanish is already complete. If we find ourselves in a bind, I know I can contact you.
Gracias/Danke!
Great episode !
Thank you so much !
Awesome series, I love it. I can’t wait for more =)
Spanish subtitles please 🙁
You’ve got it!
https://www.outwithdad.com/news/captions-for-episode-2-01
Please put this on YouTube, i cant watch it here:( I really wanna watch it! Please:-(
We’ll put it there soon.
Can you describe your problem? I wonder if it’s something Blip can fix.
Well I’m using my mobile, because my internets having problems and I can’t watch it on my mobile unless its on YouTube
Very intriguing episode, you can feel the connection between the characters and even though the focus was Rose’s confession, they managed to at least keep Angela in there as a support during the introduction.
Great work guys, can’t wait to see the next episodes!
I know you guys must get this all the time, but I watched the first season and, after watching the first episode of this season, I’m literally going to come out to my family tomorrow. Via letter, so maybe I’m a little chicken, but still, the letter’s written so it’s gonna happen haha.
Thank you so much for this show. It’s clearly having an amazing impact on so many people’s lives!
Wow Katie!
We don’t get this all the time. But we do hear time to time that we’ve helped some people around the world coming out, and we’re so happy we can be there for you. We’ve got your back, and I hope it goes well for you.
All the best,
Jason
Katie,
I think about what you’ve said here all the time. I hope everything is going well for you. You’re incredibly brave, not at all chicken! A very close friend of mine who was 99.9% sure his parents would be okay with him being gay still chose to come out by letter!
Keep in touch,
Jason
Jason,
Thanks for the message! Things are going well and being out is just really great :). In retrospect, I feel like I worried way too much about HOW I came out, and now I think it just matters that I did it. Remembering this episode where Rose had all those thoughts and doubts running through her mind really struck a chord with me and still does. I hope things are going well for you and happy holidays!
Katie
A great episode!
Finally out to my father and sisters only mother to go. ONLY. =(
Best of luck. We’re behind you.
@ lorena: Te recomiendo ver en Youtube el canal de natiuxx. Ahí puedes ver la serie, por lo menos la primera temporada completa con subtítulos en español. La traducción es muy buena y con mucho amor al detalle.
@ The amazing team: you have done a tremendous job! I have never seen such a realistic and sensitive story about coming out as a teen. This goes far beyond all stereotypes you usually find on TV/movies. Considering all the humour the story still has, there is only one word to describe it: awesome! Thank you.
sorry if I wrote this in the wrong way.
I am colombian and I like this serie but I don´t understand everything please if someone speak spanish traslate for me I thankyou
They will come soon!
Para que sea mas fácil para ti. Inténtalo aquí: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ6245M9naY
Saludos Anamaría.
I agree, it was AMAZING! Well worth the wait. The little Rose in her ear saying, “Tell him, tell him” reminds me of my own coming out to dad experience. Fortunately my dad said “I figured, and I’ll always support you.” Thanks Dad! And thanks Jason!
(out in Philly)
I’m glad it went well for you!
Its amizing thank You! Greetings from Poland! 😉 I want more ;D
Hi, congratulations to everyone.
I like so much this series and can’t wait for he next episode.
Thanks from Brazil.
PS: I really hated Vanessa when she called Rose queer…
LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u guys r just amazing!! =D , so when is the next one?? lol . I’m not lesbian but I’d love to have a dad like that he’s adorable!!
greetings from Texas =)
Next one is going to be out on July 21!
🙂 just amazing, when is the next Episode???
Cant wait 🙂
July 21!
I added a widget to the side of our site with the date.
This episode was really good, I really liked the beginning where her father was listening to the voicemail
That was fun to film!
I simply asked the actors to phone me and record their message on my voice mail. So I just I took the recording from there.
The voice of “Next Message” is my wife!
Hey. i really love this show 🙂
But, I’m from germany and my english isn’t so well.
In the first season they were subtitles, but what about this season?
Someone is working on German subtitles right now. Hopefully we’ll have them soon. Keep an eye open for them. I’ll announce when they arrive on our Facebook and Twitter.
Danke!
Wow, guys great job, amazing job! You have no idea how much I loved that scene when Rose comes out to her Dad 🙂
Wish my mom and I had that kind of experience :'(
I’m kind of confused since Vanessa is seriously giving off really mixed signals here. I’m proud to see something so awesome made from my beautiful country of Canada. I can’t wait to see what happens later on in the season!
Poor Vanessa is rather confusing, isn’t she? I’m sure we’ll understand better what’s going on there.
OMG! It’s finally there. A further wonderful episode of “Out with Dad”. My compliments to Mr. Leaver and his crew. I very much looked forward to the 2nd season and I didn’t get disappointed.
I like the new episode length much better, although it could still be longer, like an hour or so 😉
Rose’s coming out and her dad’s reaction were sooo cute and moving. It brought tears to my eyes. At first, Rose hesitates so long and then she suddenly blurts it out. Very exciting. I really didn’t expect the dad to be so nervous and babble so much. I thought he would be rather cool and relaxed and say something like, “Okay, that’s great. I am really glad and relieved that you told me.” Therefore, there was an element of surprise for me. And that’s good because predictable storylines are boring. Also, the dad’s actual reaction is much more useful to the viewers because it entertains and educates them at the same time. The morning-after talk in the car is very enlightening, too, as for instance the dad wants to know if he should have asked Rose if she’s gay. I am sure that parents of gay kids can very much relate to all these thoughts and questions that occur to Nathan. The episode also helps gay teens to better understand what goes on in their parents’ minds. I am really impressed that a straight dude can have so much empathy and sensitivity to capture and reflect the emotions of a coming out situation so realistically. What more can I say? Oh, yes! Vanessa is a bitch and religion is a plague.
Here’s something that I don’t quite understand: When Rose and her dad talk in the car, why is Rose so surprised about the fact that her dad suspected something and did some research on the “gay stuff”? The previous day, her dad told her about the stages of a parent’s reaction to a coming out and that he already went through the denial phase. Hence, Rose should have known since then that her dad had suspected something and had done some research.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I worked really hard at understanding what it must be like for both parents and teens in those situations. My goal has always been to tell a fun and cute story that enlightens both parents and their kids, as there isn’t enough of it out there.
I think Rose was probably in too much shock to think about the fact that he must have researched!
Is this going to go on youtube because I can’t watch it:(
Truly amazing. Your work is very impressive! Beautifully shot, great dialogues and really good acting. Congratulations 🙂 Looking forward to more. Cheers from Barcelona, Catalonia!
Also, if you are interested, I would be honored to translate the episode into Catalan for subtitles.
thank you everyone involved in this project. this episode was amazing. loving this season already. i just found this series last week and watched the entire first season on youtube. thank you again. 🙂
Lucky you! You only had to wait a week! For many people it was many months of waiting.
I’m glad you discovered us. Thank you for watching!
Beautifully written!!! Well acted, brought tears to my eyes when Vanessa called her queer. Wow is all can say. Can’t wait for the next episode…
So far, so good but I’m wondering why this episode wasn’t posted on Youtube.
Hey Chris,
We’re just going to try it out on Blip.TV for a bit, and eventually push it out to YouTube as well (maybe in a week or so?). I want to find out if the revenue share is as great as everyone has been saying it is. I’ll be sure to let you know how it works out.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish my parents would have been that cool… And that first girl is always the first to deny she feels anything, trust me on that one.
Something Page mentioned above that I wanted to compliment as well: The cinematography was really sweet. Great composition and great lighting on those subject shots. Very nice work.
Thank you for all your kind words, Lee.
It’s nice too see your name in my inbox once again. I’m so happy to have season two rolling out.
That was beautiful. Sad and poignant at points, charming and hilarious in others, and as far as I can see, note perfect. The girls have really grown into their roles, and I simply can’t imagine it being done any other way. Sad times ahead for Rose and Vanessa. I think on one level, I’ve kind of accepted that it might not work out for them. However, whatever comes, Rose seems more ready to deal with it, which I think is the important message.
A great start to the new season, Jason. I can’t imagine having done it better myself. I think the episode length is right on the money for this episode. I may go back and rewatch the previous season tomorrow, just to get it all back into my head. I suppose that’s as fine a way to compliment your work as any.
Couldn’t love it even more if i tried :]
Wow! That’s so flattering. Thank you.
Keep them coming!
You bet! Lots of episodes this season! Some short, some longer. Every two weeks.
This episode and what is the second season, is all around amazing. The acting is so surreal because they add realism into it all, like when Vanessa said “Queer” that was a shock, normally in movies/shows people would A: Walk away B: Agree to disagree. So it was all around borderline amazing, i totally didn’t think she would be out in this episode! I also didn’t think she would confront Vanessa in this episode aswell. Anyways, the aspects of every emotional and clear scenes were what caught my attention. Great work!
I’m so happy we caught your attention in all the right ways.
We worked really hard to be as real as we can be!
I just thought about OWD today, remembering that Season 2 was set to take off early July, but couldn’t remember the exact date. And here I am watching the season premier and thought it was absolutely wonderful.
Job well done, looking forward to the rest of the season!
Thank you 🙂
Great timing!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. We can’t wait to share the rest of the season.
To everyone involved you are all amazing. This has blown my mind absolutely fantastic so worth the wait .And when vanessa called rose queer you can see she is struggling so much .That was totally unexpected but so true to life .The coming out scene was done with humour ,love and the kids that are struggling to find their own path’s in life this series is so supportive .This should be shown in schools to help those kids who are GLBT and to stop homophobia in the place where it damages and kills so many of our young .my hat goes off to EVERYONE INVOLVED .love to you all jue xoxo
Jue, thank your taking the time to share your thoughts. Not everyone has picked up on what Vanessa is going through. I think you’ll find her story this season very interesting.
I’m proud to say I’ve heard from people that this show is actually being shown in some schools here and there.
News like that, and kind words like yours makes all of our hard work feel worthwhile. Thank you!
Coming from as the anxiety-ridden adopted child in deeply religious family, I know what the denial is like. Deep, dark, intense, angry denial. That’s what I felt. I never saw anything wrong with other people being gay and lesbian, but it felt wrong for me to be. So I hid it for the longest time. My family still hasn’t asked and I keep telling myself that if/when they ask, I’ll tell them to truth because, after all, everyone else knows because I just dropped the act I had going for so long. While I have never felt any anger towards other people for being homosexual, I can see how Vanessa’s denial can translate into that sort of lashing out. The acting in this was completely spot-on, especially the part with the little voice in Rose’s head annoying the hell out of her to tell her dad and then her dad with those written cues behind her and his rant. It was hilarious and made a serious situation balanced with that much needed dose of comedy. The camera work was beautiful as were the musical selections.
This, Out With Dad, is superb, quality “entertainment”. I use quotes because it’s not just meant to entertain. It’s meant to educate, to make a difference with those who struggle with this kind of thing every day and to spread the message that, yeah, it’s not always going to be easy but it’s certainly not wrong to gay. If you’re gay, lesbian, transgender, questioning, queer, bisexual, it doesn’t matter because there is nothing wrong with who you are and any truly loving family will support you. Damn it, they should support you.
This was amazing.
Page, I can not express how much your words mean to us.
On the night you wrote this, most of the cast and crew were still at my house celebrating the launch of the new episode. I read this out loud to them because I wanted everyone to know how important their hard work has been. Thank you for sharing with us.
I feel for Vanessa too, not everyone has picked up what she might be going through, I think you’ll really enjoy her story this season.
I’m glad you call this “entertainment”. I want it to be entertaining, but I’m also proud that this is educating. There isn’t enough of this stuff out there, is there?
Enjoy the rest of the season!
Beautiful and so real!
Thank You so much!
Awesome!! I loved it. Can’t wait for the next one. Regards (and congratulations for the great job!!!) from Argentina.
Wooooooooooow….Intense episode! Great job.
I LOVE THIS WEBSERIE!!♣

-David-
Oh man! When Vanessa said “queer” I was in such shock! I wanted to rip her head off! Well anyways, I adore this show and can’t wait for the next episode!
man tht was a good episode and i can’t wait to see more of this season
Just thanks! It’s beautifully done and it gives me hope!
Thanks for the second season! Is so nice!! Thank you for sharing! greetings from México! (:
OMG!!! i loved!!!! it was amazing, no crei que le fuera decir a su papa en el 1er capitulo pero me encanto, estuvo excelente este episodio, thanks for this second season <3
It is now 1:45am in the UK and I just HAD to stay up to see this, and I have to say that I am so glad I did. I honestly didn’t think I could love the series more than I already did, but I was wrong. I was with our little “Blossom” all the way when she told Nathan, and I felt it equally from his side too. Vanessa’s “Queer” jibe stung me a little too. It is so true to life. All in all I have to agree with Stefan, it was nothing short of ‘Amazing’. Thank you all for all your hard work.
Signed, one very tired but happy bunny! Em.
We’re so honoured you stayed up late to watch!
Much of the cast and crew were still at my home when we were celebrating the launch. We were all amazed that someone in the UK stayed up to wait for us!
Wow, great 2nd season premiere! Beautifully shot and great acting by all those involved. The whole coming out scene was wonderfully put together and despite the various questions Nathan had posed to himself, the important point of how he still loved Rose was clearly put across on more than one occasion in the episode. I have to say, that when Vanessa called Rose ‘queer’ I was initially shocked, but on reflection it’s realistic in that those that are in denial of their sexuality attempt to distance themselves further by using such words. As Rose says herself, Vanessa isn’t as lucky as she is in that she comes from a very religious family, and the question remains whether Vanessa will be able to break those confines and accept who she is, or if she will continue to live a lie. Have to say, I laughed when Nathan screeched on the brakes when Rose told him that Vanessa had kissed her. The message being put across in this show is a serious and important one, but I like the humour that is also part of the show and which is needed to balance out the serious moments and discussions. Again, well done to all. Look forward to the next episode 🙂
Rita,
It’s so lovely to hear your words once again. I’ve missed your feedback!
You’re very perspective about Vanessa. I think you’ll appreciate her story this season.
Cheers!
I can’t watch it for some reason!! where is everybody watching it???
Did you get to watch it? There was a glitch, should be okay now – right here on this page.
Just watched the episode, and oh my goodness!! I can’t wait for more!! I waited so long for this! Keep up the great work! XD
EXCELLENT! Keep up the awesome work!
Just watched the episode and there is only 1 word to describe it “amazing”.
We’re honoured to fit such a word!
i can´t wait for season 2´s first episode in about 1 hour 😀 a shame its already 2 in the morning in europe by then but i know its worth staying up late to watch the episode.
regards , stefan
